Policy Brief: Implications of the Covid-19 Pandemic on Decarbonisation Pathways

This DEEDS Policy Brief outlines key features of near- and long-term EU research, innovation and policy to adapt decarbonisation pathways in light of the impacts of Covid-19 and to leverage emerging thinking in how we produce and consume energy.

The EU strategic long-term vision targets a deep decarbonisation pathway to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. The European Green Deal aims to marry decarbonisation with a prosperous,
fair and resource-efficient European economy. The unprecedented (in our lifetimes) scale and scope of the Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in a set of major challenges as well as new opportunities in pursuing this decarbonisation agenda.
