Our first workshop on “Social Innovation and lifestyle change for the decarbonisation of Europe” will be hosted on 28 March 2019 in Brussels.
The transition towards a carbon neutral Europe will require deep changes in its economy, institutions, politics, social networks and people’s behaviour. There is scientific consensus on the fact that it is difficult to reach the targets of the Paris Agreement without addressing the social changes too. Therefore, EU citizens play an important role in the decarbonisation of Europe’s economy and society.
This importance has also been recognised in the final report of the High-Level Panel (HLP) of the European Decarbonisation Pathways Initaitive (EDPI). The DEEDS project has supported the High-Level Panel in elaborating R&I recommendations by creating state-of-the-art knowledge on decarbonisation pathways. The workshop on Social Innovation and lifestyle change is the first of a series that DEEDS will organise on each chapter of the final report. In the workshop we will discuss recommendations for Research and Innovation (R&I) specifically to fill current knowledge gaps. The recommendations of the High-Level Panel address some major bottlenecks and knowledge gaps for decarbonisation in Europe. In the workshop we want to collect concrete ideas for research and innovation programs for the coming 10 years that can foster social innovation and lifestyle change for the decarbonisation of Europe’s economy and society.
